Best Jobs According to Experts
Best jobs is defined by salary and the expected growth of
that particular field.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (bls.gov,
oco.bls.gov), only two of the top ten fastest growing professions require a
graduate degree (master's or higher).
The top five fastest growing jobs you can get with a
bachelor's degree are:
Biomedical Engineer.
Get a bachelor's degree in biology or other related field. Biomedical engineers combine their knowledge
of biology, medicine and engineering to work with prosthetics, artificial
organs, medical equipment, etc.
Network Systems and Data Communications Analyst. It's all about computer systems and
networks. As companies increase their
use of network technology, these professionals will use their expertise to facilitate
the implementation and maintenance of those networks.
Financial Examiners.
Financial examiners should earn a bachelor's degree in finance,
business, economics or accounting. to qualify for this quickly growing field.
Skin Care Specialist.
This career requires a certification rather than a formal degree. Skin care specialists provide treatments that
promote healthy skin and enhance appearance.
Biochemist/Biophysicist.
Biochemists and biophysicists work within the medical and pharmaceutical
industries conducting research and developing products that contribute to health
and well-being.
For additional information, and a list of more fast-growing
careers, visit The Bureau of Labor Statistics, bls.gov.

Job Rating Info
You can't always believe what you read. I read a report that identified these 20 jobs
here as the best anywhere based on their criteria.
It was on a job rating website and they were in order from
best to worst which I don't do here. I
list them randomly because I don't want copyright infringement trouble but
anyway you should have seen the comments.
There were hundreds of them saying this list is full of crap.
They said a lot of these jobs weren't as good as they
sounded and suggested other jobs that are better.

Chapter 2. Pitching for a Job or Product
Original Methods to Get a Job
Several years ago I read a book about how to break into the
entertainment industry which essentially said identify the few people who can
give you the job you want then do whatever you have to, including wacky things
to get noticed enough to get an interview.
One guy sent some manager a cute card everyday saying it's
coming, it's coming, leaving it a mystery then on the fifth day, sent the guy
his screenplay.
Another guy had business cards made up that said free bottle
of champagne to anyone who can get me an interview with J.J. Bigshot then stood
in front of the building where J.J. Bigshot worked handing them out. J.J. Bigshot heard about it and gave the guy
an interview saying anyone who had that much initiative must be a good worker.
Some chick sent a nude picture around with her cover
letter. She wanted to be a cocktail
waitress.
I'm not big on these tactics they sometimes call guerrilla
job searching because to me they seem demeaning, tacky, cheap, cheesy, take
your pick of adjectives but the thing is that they're now the buzz. They say they work.
I was watching a so-called reality show which I think was
scripted then acted out to look spontaneous.
This one guy gets an interview with some bigshot who disses him by
reading his e-mail on a big screen on the wall while the guy is talking to him
so the guy comes out and says Mr. Bigshot is a member of some horse stable
where his kids go to ride horses. He's
got kids too so he'll join and befriend this guy then get the big real estate
contract he wants.
In the next few scenes they show this guy going to the horse
stable with his family befriending this other guy with his family. It seemed like a big load of pretense to me
but you have to admit that in today's competitive world, you have to dream up
roundabout ways to get a job or accomplish what you want.
About twenty years ago, I was interviewed by a guy for a
job. I saw him a few weeks later at the
YMCA and asked him if he remembered me.
He said no. That's how it is in
the real world. Some guy you spend seven
minutes or more with doesn't remember you three weeks later.
Of course I believe your merits should speak for themselves
and for you but sometimes it's just not enough.
Sometimes, just short of embarrassing yourself like the guy on
youtube.com who made the stupid video about himself as God's gift to the world,
you have to think up alternative methods to get what you want.
Be aware that these methods can easily backfire. You try a cheap stunt to get noticed with no
backbone or substance to back it up, you're screwed.
The guys at godaddy.com which registers website names for
nine bucks a year knew they were the cheapest but they weren't getting the
marketshare because nobody knew they existed so they made up some TV
commercials with a busty broad and advertised them during the superbowl. Within a week, they gained 15 points of
marketshare.
The squeaky wheel gets the oil. Genius introverted nerds don't get noticed so
they miss out on the opportunities.
Some people have a natural antipathy to gimmicks or pop
culture stunts like me. I can't stand
gimmicky people looking for attention.
If your mark is a serious person, don't even try it. To my way of thinking, cuteness went out of
style right after high school.
You're not marketing the next rap group to a bunch of young
people. You're selling yourself for a
job or pitching a new product. Think
twice before you try some offbeat method just because you read about it
somewhere or saw it on youtube.com.
The best way to brand yourself as a stellar worker is
through your work and personality. All
employers want somebody impressive, not generic. Speak through your work and who you are.
No means not today but maybe next week.
Job hunting is simple:
1.) Discover what you're really good at.
2.) Culture it.
3.) Identify the exact people and companies who can use your
abilities.
4.) Tell them and show them what you can do.
The things all bosses look for are very basic:
An upstanding person, no bull. You're there to work and not gossip or be
frivolous.
An honest person not looking to rip the company off any chance
they get, even on time like sleeping on the job.
A person who can speak clearly.
A sociable, likeable person.
A person who can think on their feet enough to lead if
necessary.
Someone who loves the work or the action.
Someone who can get along with everybody.
Some TV journalism show did a study where they had a geeky
introvert who had a good resume apply for the same jobs in the financial field
(which is all about people contacts) and a likeable, extraverted guy without
much of a track record. He got the job
offer way more than the other guy.
It's about your look.
Do you look passionate and inspired about life in general?
Be innovative.
Be sociable.
If you have the guts to call managers cold to ask for an
interview, your best chances to get past the secretary are before 9 o'clock and
after 5 o'clock when she's gone and he might answer the phone.
Try to get hired part-time, as a temp or as a consultant for
a contract job. These are ways for
managers to look at you. If they like
what they see, they'll offer you a fulltime job.
The Pitch for Anything
They want a product with a huge market potential that's
simple to understand.
Be prepared.
Be energetic.
Believe and put your heart into it.
Your level of passion will determine your level of success.
Don't sell, tell the story.
Don't overtell to the point of boredom.
Act like you're not desperate, just confident.
Never let people see you sweat.
Study the competition.
Learn about your field.
Be prepared to answer any question.
Look clean and neat.
Don't be ruled by emotions.
Be your own worst critic.
Spot your own bullshit.
Talk is cheap. Be a doer.
Make people laugh
Be real. Be
believable. Don't be over-the-top.
You need clarity and focus.
It has to be quick.
It has to have an aha moment for the potential investor.
Be ready for the hard questions like what exactly will the
money I give you do to get you closer to your grand goal. Put yourself in the guy's spot. What questions would you ask?
If you don't believe in it, it will show.
Have a retail price for your product ready.
Say your piece then leave the guy alone to think about
it. If you try for overkill, you cheapen
yourself.
Don't come off like it's do or die. This guy is just one potential investor. You should believe in your product regardless
of the opinions of others. Even if you
get a thousand rejections, if you believe, you must keep going.

Look for a New Job While Employed
I say if you're looking for greener pastures while in a job,
go for it.
I read somewhere that if your employer catches you doing
this, to him it's disloyalty. He can
legally fire you for it. The legal
argument is that you are a potential risk for taking clients and/ or
confidential information to a competitor.
I say if you hate your job now or want more money, you got
nothing to lose.
Post your resume up on the internet. If your current employer finds it, so
what. No glory without risk and guts.

Second Life/ You as Avatar/ Virtual World
Second Life is a 3d virtual world where an individual goes,
develops a fictional character called his or her avatar then socializes with
the other avatars in that fantasy world.
You enter these scenarios with your character/ avatar and
take on an identity interacting with other people in this virtual world.
For some people it's fun.
For other people, it's meaningless.
Pay real money to buy Linden dollars which allows you to buy
stuff to enhance your avatar.
It's about developing a character with other people who also
have avatars.
Some big companies have a presenceon secondlife including
companies that recruit for real jobs like semperllc.com/metaverse

Career Education Websites
Most states have Career Information Delivery Systems
(CIDS). Look for these systems in
secondary schools, postsecondary institutions, libraries, job training sites,
vocational rehabilitation centers and employment service offices.
Job seekers can use the systems' computers, printed
material, microfiche and toll-free hotlines to obtain information on
occupations, educational opportunities, student financial aid, apprenticeships
and military careers. Ask counselors for
specific locations.

Employer
Sponsorship of Education
Some companies pay for you to continue your education. They expect you to continue working for them
after you complete your degree so they can recoup their investment.
Some companies or organizations don't pay for your
continuing education but if you get another degree, your pay grade goes
up. This is why a lot of teachers get
master degrees, simply to jack up their pay.
They do it part-time, most of it as e-learning then if there's an internship
involved, they do it in the summer.
Employment Agencies Fraud
Beware that many ads in many publications purporting to
either find you a good job either here or overseas or touting any kind of
business opportunity could be a fly-by-night scam taking as much money from as
many suckers as possible in a short period of time then moving on and setting
up under a new name.
These ads are often simply too good to be true, offering
either a high paying job quickly or overseas when in actuality, the job market
is tough everywhere for good jobs and many countries have tough laws about
letting foreigners in to work so do yourself a favor and don't fall for
them. If you want to work overseas, do
your own research at the library or through this book.
Employment agencies, head hunters whatever you want to call
them sometimes charge a fee for helping you network to find a job (often, the
employer pays) but the government has these services and offers them for free
if you know where to look.
The business section of your library has some good books and
newspapers to help you find a job.
Investigations into some of these employment firms,
particularly those catering to professionals, have revealed that many are
scams, taking large upfront fees for essentially just making up a resume and
then giving the applicant a generic list of corporate addresses, something you
can find in any library. These firms prey on people when they're down and out,
looking for a job.
Your local colleges can be a good source of ideas. Even if you're not a student, you might still
be allowed to use their employment services.
Just act like a student and nobody will question you or register for one
course and get a student I.D.
If an employment agency charges an upfront fee then don't
bother with it. If they're legitimate,
they won't charge you until you get a job.
Oral promises are meaningless.
Get any promises in writing.
There are phony scams like someone placing an ad pretending
to be a government office looking for workers, then when you take the bait,
they charge you an upfront application fee.
Never call a 900 number in a job ad.
Use the free government employment agency in your area.

Guest in Media/ Get on Talk Shows
Get the word out; establish yourself as an expert in your
field and tag along everything you write with a quick note listing your website
address for a catalog, dealership opportunity or more information.
Become a guest on as many of the radio and television talk
shows or interview type programs as possible.
Actually, this is much easier to bring about than most people
realize.
Write a letter to the producer of these programs then follow
up an in-person visit or telephone call.
Your initial contact should emphasize that your product or service would
be of interest to the listeners or viewers of the program - perhaps even saving
them time and money.
With cable TV and talk radio, shows need interesting guests
which could be you promoting your business if you've got an entertaining hook
but you have to plug away sending queries to all the broadcast media out there,
the addresses of which are in the broadcaster directories at the library.
Get yourself listed in guestfinder.com which is a directory
that the media uses to find guests.
For every radio interview you solicit, offer the radio
station ten free of your products or books to give away to their audience.
When you actually go on TV or on the radio, it's a soft
sell. You're not even selling. You're filling up the show with interesting
content and in return, the host will ask you how people can get a hold of you
whereupon you mention your website and toll-free number.
Get a website (shark-meat.com) and/ or a vanity toll-free
number like 800-shark-meat if you're selling shark meat with merchant credit
card status so potential customers can get your contact info quickly then call
up and order by credit card.

Many Employers Look at Your Credit Score
Many employers in any business that deals with money look at
prospective employees' credit ratings to see how good or honest you are in
handling money.
Employers in other fields look at your credit score too.
Offbeat Job-Seeking Stunts
People have done weird things to try to get a job
interview. Sometimes it works but you
have to be aware that some people don't take kindly to stunts geared to help
someone get a job because they seem cheesy, exploitive and gimmicky.
Don't send a gift to someone you don't know.
Don't send a pizza with your resume attached to it. To me, it's not cool.

User Groups
Some of the search engines and the social networking groups
like facebook.com and tribe.net have ways for you to network with likeminded
people who are possibly looking for work.
Go to the "groups/ clubs" option at a search
engine or to a social networking site and type in your category like:

Who Do I Send My Resume To?
There is a relatively simple way to target just the few
employers you're looking for in an internet search.
Start with your job position and add the term "submit
resume" or "job application" to get:
carpenter submit resume
carpenter job application
Next, some search engines have an advanced feature where you
can narrow your search to either zipcode or telephone area code. Use it.
If they don't have one, go like this:
carpenter submit resume plus zipcode number
carpenter job application plus area code number
Finally, you have to use this feature to eliminate all the
resume services out there who are trying to sell their resume submitting
services to job seekers like you. They
invariably use the word "free" to try to suck you into their website.
A company looking to hire people on its website will not use
the word "free." They will
simply say submit your resume (or job application) to their address which
contains their zipcode and phone/ fax number with area code so in order to try
to eliminate these resume submitting services from coming up on your search as
much as you can, you must either use the advanced search function on your
search engine to remove any websites with the word "free" in them or
type in your search term something like this:
carpenter, submit resume plus zipcode number - free
carpenter, job application plus area code number - free
carpenter, submit resume plus Alabama - free
carpenter, job application plus Birmingham, AL - free
